  1. Do you think the following significant concept and unit question are good to introduce a unit on poetry for grade 6/ 7?

Writers through the ages have often used rhyme, rhythm and figurative language to express their deepest feelings about themselves and the world around them.

How do poets choose their words to express what they feel about themselves and the world around them?

  2. Hello May, Thanks for the comment. What are the key concepts in your unit? Rhyme, rhythm and figurative language are related concepts to Language and literature as a subject. What is the context of the unit? Combining the macro concepts, context and the subject-specific concepts would yield the unit focus.

    • I realised I had mmissed that part. I have refined it to:

Environments (natural, social and cultural) influence the imagination. Writers through the ages have often used rhyme, rhythm and figurative language to express their deepest feelings about themselves and the world around them.

      • So something like “Environments influence the writer’s imagination and resulting ways of expression.” Very nice. Thanks for sharing!
